Welcome to the S.A.L.T. Mine- 9:15-10:05 Sunday Morning in the West Gym
What is the SALT Mine?
S.A.L.T. Mine- Serving and Learning Together? Singing and Laughing Today? Such Awesome Loving Tales? Whatever S.A.L.T. might come to meant to you, Jesus said to have salt in yourselves and that we are the salt of the earth. In the S.A.L.T. Mine, we use Rotation Model Sunday School to dig into some of the best stories of Holy Scripture to see what lessons, encouragement, and inspiration they have for living out our lives of faith today.
What is Rotation Model Sunday School?
The S.A.L.T. Mine uses a rotation model for Sunday School. This means we have a variety of stations, like cooking, games, art, storytelling and more. Then, students “rotate” through them over the course of a month. We stick with stories for several weeks at a time so learners really get to know them. In this way, we mine them for all they are worth now and set students up to come back to them over time as some of the foundational stories that they relate to in life. Along with rotating through types of lessons, this format also lets us rotate our teachers regularly. Seventh graders through adults take turns leading a lesson once or twice per month. Some choose to teach just a few times per year. This keeps teachers fresh, allows for flexibility in scheduling, connects young people to more trusted adults in the community, and makes it so teachers can lead lessons that they are excited about.
Who is welcome?
Students from pre-K through 6th Grade are welcome. Parents of younger (or new) learners are encouraged to stay and learn alongside and enjoy some time with their little ones.
What can you expect?
Our weekly routine consists of:
Opening- Sings songs, review the story, connect to God and one another.
Activity- Rotations. Review the story, have an activity or two, discuss how it all relates to God.
Family Faith Time- At 10:05 Parents that have not stayed are encouraged to take 10-15 minutes for Family Faith Time using the Faith5 Model. Based on Dr. Rich Melheim’s work, this time allows families to connect with one another, talk about what we’ve just learned, and pray together.
